Safety Coordinator

Our client, a growing leader in the building materials industry, is currently seeking a Safety Specialist based out of their Prospect, CT facility. As a Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating safety activities throughout the facility, ensuring the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of safety and health policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the safety program and initiate activities to improve safety levels.
- Develop and administer safety training for all employees, including outside sales personnel and office staff.
- Conduct timely accident/incident investigations and ensure prompt reporting to plant management and Insulfoam Safety Manager.
- Ensure completion and communication of all corrective actions and recommendations from safety committee meetings within established time frames.
- Review and update safety policies and procedures in accordance with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain Hazard Communication (Hazcom) requirements and keep Safety Data Sheets (SDS) data current.
- Coordinate Industrial Hygiene surveys as required, including air, noise, and ergonomics assessments.
- Ensure completion of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all new processes, materials, and equipment.
- Review safety-related documents and narratives such as safety committee minutes, inspection reports, accident investigation reports, and near-miss reports.
- Maintain records of employee training, corrections of unsafe conditions, and workplace inspections, submitting necessary documentation to the corporate office for recordkeeping.
- Conduct weekly, monthly, and yearly safety inspections, as well as hazardous material area checks.
- Oversee yearly updates to the safety program, including the Safety Manual, Injury Illness Prevention Plan, Emergency Procedures Manual, and Emergency Contingency Plan.

Equipment Used
Standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
- Significant time spent on the production floor.
- Exposure to varying temperatures in manufacturing environment.
- Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Facilitating training on other shifts occasionally required.
Requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational plant safety requirements.
- Experience with formal problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
- Ability to function in a team environment, work well with others, handle multiple priorities and projects as necessary.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office; experience with Benchmark operation is a plus.
- Basic mathematics and data analysis skills.
- Knowledge of CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), and First Aid.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree (two-year college or technical school) required; bachelor’s degree in environmental science, safety, or related field preferred.
- Three years of proven experience in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), ISO, OSHA PSM, standards, and regulations in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Travel Requirement
- Occasional (<10%) travel for training or support of other facilities.
