Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join their growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, public works, and site development construction projects, including playgrounds, shade structures, site furnishings, concrete, grading, demolition, and related improvements.
The ideal candidate will have strong estimating experience, the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications, and experience preparing competitive bids while working closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. This position plays a key role in supporting the company’s continued growth by delivering accurate project pricing and successful bid submissions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs.
- Develop accurate and competitive bid proposals for public and private construction projects.
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Identify scope gaps, potential risks, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process.
- Maintain organized estimating files, cost databases, and historical pricing information.
Preconstruction Support
- Collaborate with project managers and field personnel to ensure estimates accurately reflect project scope and constructability.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
- Review addenda and incorporate project revisions into estimates.
- Assist with budget development and preliminary project pricing.
Client & Vendor Coordination
- Communicate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers regarding project scope, clarifications, and pricing.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors to obtain competitive pricing.
- Support contract negotiations and respond to bid clarifications as needed.
Project Analysis
- Analyze bid results and identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
- Monitor market trends, labor rates, and material pricing.
- Assist with project handoff to operations following award.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of construction estimating experience.
- Experience estimating commercial, public works, civil, or site development projects preferred.
- Experience preparing detailed quantity takeoffs and competitive bid proposals.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and project teams throughout the bidding process.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, HCSS, or similar.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of construction means and methods, material pricing, and cost estimating principles.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage and public works bidding is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience estimating playgrounds, parks, site furnishings, concrete, grading, demolition, or sitework projects is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of California public works, prevailing wage, and Davis-Bacon requirements is a plus.
