Summary

Our client is a globally recognized architecture, engineering, and design firm with more than 50 years of experience delivering innovative and award-winning projects across commercial, healthcare, education, aviation, civic, hospitality, and mixed-use markets. They are seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join their growing Los Angeles, CA office. This is a hybrid position, with employees working in the office Tuesday through Thursday and remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

This role is ideal for a Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience who can lead the structural design and delivery of small to medium-sized building projects while supporting larger, high-profile developments. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to technically innovative and sustainable designs, and work across all phases of project delivery from concept through construction. Candidates should have experience with commercial or institutional building projects, proficiency with Revit and structural analysis software, and a strong understanding of structural design principles.

Duties & Responsibilities

Project Engineering

  • Lead the structural engineering design and delivery of small to medium-sized building projects from concept through construction.
  • Support Senior Project Engineers on large, complex projects by managing assigned portions of the structural scope.
  • Develop structural concepts, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Participate in project reviews throughout all phases of design.

Technical Design

  • Design structural systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, aviation, civic, and other building types.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize structural analysis software and engineering tools to develop efficient design solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project delivery.
  • Attend client meetings and provide technical input during design coordination.
  • Perform site visits to evaluate existing conditions, monitor construction progress, and resolve field issues.
  • Review RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, and construction documentation.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with project planning, manpower estimates, scheduling, budget monitoring, and deliverable coordination.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering standards, specifications, drawing details, and Revit best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technology advancements, and sustainable design practices.
  • Support process improvements that enhance engineering quality and project delivery.

Business Development

  • Assist with proposal preparation, fee estimates, and technical presentations as needed.
  • Support project pursuits and design competitions alongside architects and project teams.
  • Help maintain positive client relationships through responsive communication and technical excellence.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience delivering commercial, institutional, healthcare, aviation, civic, or similar building projects valued between $20 million and $80 million.
  • Experience supporting projects from design development through construction and project completion.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience with architecturally significant projects is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience using structural analysis software for building design.
  • Strong understanding of structural systems, engineering principles, and applicable building codes.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design and LEED projects is preferred.

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • California Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred where applicable.
  • LEED Accredited Professional or Green Associate preferred.
