Summary

One of our most stable Commercial Construction General Contractors is currently in hyper-growth mode and is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent. The initial project will be based in Thousand Oaks, CA (Los Angeles area). Duties & Responsibilities

  • Field Management
    • Manage day-to-day field activities to ensure project milestones and overall schedule completion are met.
    • Provide continuous supervision of all work on the project.
    • Ensure work is constructed in an orderly and deliberate manner consistent with contract documents and industry best practices.
    • Verify that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner (plumb, level, straight, etc.).

  • Scheduling
    • Create short-interval look-ahead schedules and ensure upcoming activities are communicated, tracked, and proactively managed.
    • Identify potential issues and facilitate solutions.

  • Safety
    • Manage the project site safety plan.
    • Create and maintain a culture prioritizing safety, health, and cleanliness.

  • Quality & Compliance
    • Perform quality control to ensure work meets standards and documentation requirements.
    • Obtain inspections and ensure all work is properly documented.
    • Ensure compliance with all contract terms and legal requirements.

  • Coordination
    • Collaborate with engineers, architects, subcontractors, and internal teams.
    • Administer client-specific programs such as Site Rules, Security, and Safety.
    • Conduct and/or attend pre-construction, progress, and other project meetings.

  • Project Administration
    • Administer contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and related agreements.
    • Ensure scope, terms, and conditions are proactively met.
    • Maintain daily paperwork including timecards, reports, schedules, and email correspondence.

  • Change Management
    • Manage project scope changes using the latest documents to prevent rework.
    • Manage self-performed work within established budgets.

  • Closeout
    • Manage punch lists and project closeout processes to ensure timely completion.

  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Communicate with supporting groups such as client IS, vendors, and security.
    • Assist with project schedules for proposals, estimate reviews, proposal creation, and interviews.
    • Participate in marketing and project acquisition efforts.
    • Perform other duties as needed to support company goals.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education & Experience
    • AS degree in Construction Management or similar, OR Journeyman status in a building trade with progressive supervisory experience.
    • Strong understanding of construction means and methods for commercial and institutional buildings and related site work.

  • Technical Skills
    • Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, scheduling, Microsoft Office, and construction-related software.
    • Current credentials: OSHA 30, First Aid, CPR.

  • Construction Skills
    • Strong understanding of sequencing and scheduling.
    • Knowledge of project controls and change order management.

  • Critical Thinking
    • Excellent communication and listening skills.
    • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems.
    • Adaptability to work within systems or outside them to get timely results.

  • Action Oriented
    • Goal-driven with a sense of urgency.
    • Proactive in identifying and solving problems.
    • Quality-focused with minimal need for rework.
