Summary

Our client is a boutique full-service real estate advisory and construction management firm supporting public and private sector projects throughout Southern California. They are seeking a Senior Office Engineer – Maintenance & Operations (M&O) to support large-scale construction and facilities improvement projects for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

This is a full-time position responsible for coordinating project delivery activities and leading the administrative functions of construction projects from planning and design through closeout. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting commercial, public sector, or educational facility construction projects valued at over $15 million and possess strong knowledge of project controls, contract administration, change management, scheduling, budgeting, and construction documentation.

The Senior Office Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, contractors, consultants, and field teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with District standards and regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Project Administration & Coordination

    • Coordinate various aspects of project delivery, including planning, design, budgeting, scheduling, labor compliance, and project closeout activities.

    • Schedule, document, track, and report project planning and engineering activities.

    • Coordinate with Project Managers, contractors, consultants, field staff, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

    • Maintain project files, logs, correspondence, contractor invoices, progress reports, and project documentation.

  • Contract & Change Management

    • Read, interpret, and evaluate architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and proposals.

    • Assist in developing contracting strategies and coordinating contract award documentation.

    • Review and respond to Requests for Clarification (RFCs), Change Order Proposals (COPs), and Change Directives (CDs).

    • Prepare cost estimates and assist with negotiating fair and reasonable pricing for contractor change orders.

    • Support claims management efforts through collection and analysis of contract data and project documentation.

  • Project Controls & Scheduling

    • Review contractor baseline schedules and analyze critical path activities and recovery schedules.

    • Monitor project schedules and progress to ensure compliance with approved timelines.

    • Review applications for payment and verify accuracy prior to approval.

    • Conduct site visits and field observations to verify project progress and existing conditions.

    • Prepare project status reports and progress documentation.

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance

    • Review constructability reports and ensure compliance with District standards, Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements, and applicable building codes.

    • Lead efforts to perform required testing and inspections to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.

    • Support quality assurance initiatives throughout project execution.

  • Meetings & Project Closeout

    • Coordinate and facilitate project progress meetings with contractors, project managers, and field teams.

    • Prepare meeting agendas, document meeting minutes, and track action items through completion.

    • Assist with project closeout activities, including collection and organization of as-built drawings, testing records, maintenance manuals, and project documentation.

    • Support final turnover and project record management activities.

  • Additional Responsibilities

    • Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Project Managers, Owners Authorized Representatives (OARs), or Project Engineers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience

    • Minimum eight (8) years of full-time professional experience in a similar role supporting project or construction management activities.

    • Experience on commercial, public sector, and/or educational facility construction projects valued at $15 million or greater.

    • Strong knowledge of construction administration, project controls, budgeting, scheduling, contract management, and project documentation.

    • Experience reviewing construction schedules, payment applications, change orders, and contract documents.

    • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

    • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM).

    • Experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects.

    • Experience with Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) projects.

    • Experience with Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction and design processes.

    • Experience supporting public educational facility construction programs.

  • Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

    • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, provided the candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent.
