Summary
Our client is a globally recognized architecture, engineering, and design firm with more than 50 years of experience delivering innovative and award-winning projects across commercial, healthcare, education, aviation, civic, hospitality, and mixed-use markets. They are seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineer to join their growing Los Angeles, CA office. This is a hybrid position, with employees working in the office Tuesday through Thursday and remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
This role is ideal for a licensed Structural Engineer with 10+ years of experience who can independently lead the structural design and delivery of large, complex building projects from concept through construction. The successful candidate will mentor engineering staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, maintain strong client relationships, and help deliver technically innovative and sustainable design solutions. Candidates should have experience with large commercial or institutional projects, strong seismic design expertise, and proficiency with structural analysis software and Revit.
Duties & Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead the structural engineering design and delivery of large and complex building projects from concept through construction.
- Develop structural concepts, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Participate in project reviews throughout all phases of design.
Technical Design
- Perform structural engineering design for steel and concrete building systems, including high-rise and long-span structures.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Utilize structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, GSA, or similar platforms.
- Apply seismic engineering principles and ensure compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with architects, consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project delivery.
- Attend client meetings and serve as a technical resource for structural engineering matters.
- Conduct site visits during design and construction to evaluate existing conditions, monitor progress, and resolve field issues.
- Review RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, and construction documentation.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and project teams.
- Review engineering work for quality, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assist in developing engineering standards, design details, specifications, and Revit best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the structural engineering team.
Business Development
- Support proposal preparation, fee estimates, and business development initiatives.
- Participate in client presentations and industry events as needed.
- Help build and maintain long-term client relationships that contribute to repeat business.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience
- Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience on commercial, institutional, healthcare, aviation, civic, or similar large building projects.
- Demonstrated experience independently leading projects from concept through construction.
- Experience with architecturally significant or large-scale projects exceeding $100 million preferred.
- Strong seismic engineering experience through construction administration.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with structural analysis software including SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, GSA, or similar.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of structural systems, steel and concrete design, and current building codes.
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles and LEED projects is a plus.

Education & Licensure

- California Structural Engineer (SE) license required.
- NCEES Record preferred.
- LEED Accredited Professional or Green Associate preferred.
