Our client is a boutique full service real estate advisory firm with a focus on project development and construction management for our valued private developers and public organizations in Southern California. Our team consists of licensed Professional Engineers (PE), certified Project Management Professionals (PMP), certified professional with Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), licensed General Building Contractor and other industry designations. We can provide entitlement, development, design, procurement, construction management, project management, expert witness and litigation support services on a variety of building types. Our experienced team have provided these services to successfully deliver various facilities for public school districts, college districts, universities, commercial developers, hospitality owners, multinational CM/PM consultants and other valued clients.

This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Community College District. The ideal candidate is an experienced construction safety professional with a strong background in managing safety across multiple commercial job sites, ideally within educational or campus environments. They have extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, OCIP programs, and safety compliance, and are skilled in conducting site inspections, reviewing safety documentation, and leading safety meetings. This individual is organized, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with both field teams and management, while maintaining strict safety standards in a fast-paced environment. Relevant certifications and up-to-date safety training are required.

Responsibilities

  • This position will be assigned as a District-Wide position.
  • Perform management oversight of construction activity on behalf of the client, report on contractor regulatory and contract safety compliance on multiple projects sites.
  • Monitor compliance to all current OSHA requirements that relate to the specific construction projects.
  • Perform daily safety reviews of work in progress in accordance with current Safety Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as developed and updated by BuildLACCD.
  • Monitor adherence to Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements and procedures.
  • Support to the Program Safety Manager, including but not limited to, attending any required meetings, or providing safety reports/analysis as requested.
  • Attend construction meeting with college project team and general contractor. Leading the safety
    topic (toolbox), report on site observations (Observation Report) and review upcoming construction
    schedule for hazard preparedness.
  • Perform ongoing construction site safety inspections and generate daily safety report for all site
    visits.
  • Submit weekly Project Health Safety and Environmental Observation Report to College Project
    Manager.
  • Perform ongoing review, for completion and accuracy, of contractor safety submittals, JHA, MOP,
    Fall Protection Plans, Crane Lift Plans, Excavation and Scaffold Erecting Plans, Confined Space Entry
    and hazard assessment of other high risk operations.
  • Perform review of contractor submitted incident reports, participate in safety stand-downs, and
    prepare and submit lessons learned to Program Safety Manager.
  • Perform and document safety orientation with contractor safety representative.
  • Monitor adherence to zero tolerance and corrective action policy for workers found not in
    compliance with the Program’s safety policy.
  • Flexibility in schedule and transportation to work at multiple sites based on assigned schedule and
    duties throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, establish daily work priorities, and perform oversight at
    multiple active construction projects.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Required Experience:

  • 10 years’ of commercial construction experience in the US with a General Contractor
  • 5 years’ experience in California with a Contractor or major subcontractor
  • 2 years’ experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment
  • Strong experience managing field construction teams on multiple projects.
  • Experience on demolition, renovation, and new construction building projects.
  • Experience working on OCIP programs.
  • Experience on modernization/renovation projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous
    materials, hazardous material waste removal and handling, such as asbestos and lead based paint.
  • Strong experience working senior management and field teams on large building programs across
    multiple sites and locations.
  • Experience participating in scheduled construction Meetings with Contractors and Project Managers.
  • Strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Owner’s Construction Management staff and Contractor’s
    Site Management Team.
  • Ability to manage, control, and report safety incidents in a timely manner in accordance with OSHA
    regulations and Owner’s Requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and other basic software programs used in
    Construction.

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Construction management, safety management, safety engineer or related degree is preferred
  • Additional safety/health certifications and credentials as appropriate for this position
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • Current OSHA 500 (Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry) – (include copy of certificate in resume package)

Required Licenses and Certificates:

  • Hold a valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) – (include copy of certificate in resume package)
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification – include copy in resume package for verification.
  • All certificates and credentials must be active and current for consideration. Include a current copy of all certifications in resume package for verification.
